The problem

AWS billing tools were built for enterprise.
Not for your team.

Small teams get the same tools as Fortune 500 companies — dashboards with 200 settings, email alerts that arrive too late, and a $500/month minimum.

"

A few years ago my startup was killed by an AWS mistake that ran overnight. We had no idea until the bill arrived.

AWS billed me 700% more than expected after an RDS version upgrade. I only found out at the end of the month.

The tooling gap is huge:

😤
AWS Native
Free but clunky. Email-only. No Slack. No context. Alerts arrive too late.
StackAlert
€4–39/month
Slack alerts with context. No dashboards. 60-second setup.
🏢
CloudZero / nOps
$500–$2,000/month. Built for 100+ engineer orgs.
Why StackAlert

AWS cost control that lives in Slack.

Instant spike alerts with context.

The moment any service spends 50%+ more than its 7-day average, your team gets a Slack message — with the culprit service, the extra cost, and a link to investigate. Not just "something happened."

Daily digest.

Every morning: yesterday's spend, top 5 services, vs. last week. 30 seconds to read, zero dashboards to open.

Read-only & auditable.

One CloudFormation template deploys a read-only IAM role. The Lambda is open-source on GitHub — audit exactly what we access.

EU data residency. GDPR compliant.

All data processed and stored in AWS Frankfurt (eu-central-1). No US data transfer. German-language support available. CloudZero, Spot.io, and nOps are US-only — StackAlert is built for European teams.

Setup

Up and running in 60 seconds.

No YAML. No dashboards. No agents to install.

1

Connect your AWS account

Click the CloudFormation link. A read-only IAM role is created in your account in under 30 seconds. No credentials to manage — just an ARN to paste.

aws cloudformation deploy --template-url stackalert-role.yaml
2

Add StackAlert to Slack

One OAuth click. Choose which channel gets alerts. Done. Your team is now connected — no Slack app deployment required.

3

Get alerted when it matters

Every 6 hours, StackAlert checks your spend against your baseline. If anything spikes, your team gets a Slack message — with context, not just a number.

"I've spent 10 years managing AWS infrastructure. I've seen teams lose thousands to runaway Lambda functions, forgotten NAT gateways, and dev environments left running over a long weekend. I built StackAlert because AWS Budgets doesn't cut it — and no one should pay $500/month for basic cost awareness."

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is it safe to give StackAlert access to my AWS account?
Yes. StackAlert uses a read-only IAM role — it can only read Cost Explorer data, never make changes. The exact Lambda function is open-source on GitHub. We follow least privilege: the role is scoped to only the Cost Explorer API calls we need.
What AWS services does StackAlert monitor?
All AWS services by default — EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, Data Transfer, and everything else. You can configure alerts per service, per region, or per resource tag. The daily digest always shows your top 5 cost drivers.
I already have AWS Budgets set up. Why do I need this?
AWS Budgets sends emails when you cross a monthly threshold — that's too late. StackAlert checks every 6 hours, detects unusual patterns early, and delivers context (which service, which region, what changed) directly in Slack where your team already works.
Is my billing data stored in the EU? (GDPR)
Yes. All data is processed and stored in AWS Frankfurt (eu-central-1). We are GDPR compliant and do not transfer data outside the EU. A Data Processing Agreement (DPA / AVV) is available on request.
When will StackAlert launch?
We're targeting Q2 2026. Waitlist members get access first and lock in the 50% early access pricing. We'll send one email when it's ready — no spam in between.
